5 Seattle Coffee Shops Worth Adding to Your Coffee Rotation

We're pretty serious about our coffee around here in Seattle, and luckily, there are no shortage of local spots serving up a really good cup.

But sometimes it's fun to get out of your usual routine and try somewhere new. Whether you're looking for a cozy neighborhood café, a creative specialty latte, or just a really good espresso to get your day moving, Seattle has plenty of options.

I've rounded up five local coffee shops worth checking out. Each has its own personality, its own neighborhood vibe, and (most importantly) a good reason to stop in.

Bequest Coffee Co. – Capitol Hill

If you're looking for a neighborhood coffee shop that feels welcoming, a little stylish, and has more to offer than just your morning latte, Bequest Coffee Co. is worth a visit.

Located on East Madison Street, Bequest is a family-owned café with a focus on quality coffee, fresh food, and creating a welcoming community atmosphere. Their menu goes beyond the usual coffee-and-pastry lineup, offering breakfast options, paninis, pastries, smoothies, and açaí bowls.

It's a great place to meet a friend, catch up over coffee, or settle in with your laptop for a little work away from home. And if you're someone who likes experimenting with flavored drinks, they have plenty of specialty latte options to keep things interesting.

Anchorhead Coffee – Multiple Seattle Locations

Anchorhead Coffee is a great stop for anyone who appreciates a little creativity with their coffee. They're a Seattle-based specialty coffee roaster known for small-batch roasting, quality espresso, and some pretty fun specialty drinks.

With locations in Downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill, Pike Place Market, and West Seattle, there's a good chance you'll find one not too far from wherever your day takes you.

One drink that deserves a mention is their Honey Bunches of Cold Brew, which combines cold brew with honey, cinnamon, and oat milk. It's a little sweet, a little spiced, and a nice change from your everyday iced coffee.

They also offer freshly baked pastries and breakfast bites, making it an easy stop whether you're grabbing something on the way to work or taking a break while exploring downtown.

Diva Espresso – Multiple Seattle-Area Locations

A Seattle coffee roundup wouldn't feel complete without mentioning Diva Espresso.

With locations throughout Seattle and the surrounding area, including Greenwood, Broadview, Wallingford, Downtown, and Kenmore, Diva has built a following as a neighborhood-friendly coffee stop.

The menu covers all the classics, lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, Americanos, and more, along with specialty drinks, teas, smoothies, and Italian sodas. They also offer a variety of milk alternatives, so there's something for just about everyone.

What makes Diva stand out is its approachable neighborhood feel. It's the kind of place where you can grab your usual order, chat with a friendly barista, and get on with your day.

And let's face it, having a reliable neighborhood coffee shop is one of life's underrated luxuries.

Monorail Espresso – Downtown Seattle

Now we're talking Seattle coffee history.

Monorail Espresso has been serving Seattle coffee lovers since 1980, starting as an espresso cart near the Seattle Center Monorail before becoming the iconic walk-up coffee window downtown that locals know today.

And if you've ever walked around downtown Seattle, there's a good chance you've spotted one of their locations.

Monorail is all about espresso drinks done well. Think rich lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, and specialty drinks, along with their popular Chubbie chocolate chip cookies. Yes, you should probably get one. No, I don't think you'll regret it.

One of the things that makes Monorail so fun is its old-school Seattle personality. Their famous directions menu pokes fun at the questions tourists ask about getting around downtown. It's a little sarcastic, very Seattle, and honestly pretty entertaining.

Herkimer Coffee – Multiple Seattle Locations

Last but definitely not least, we have Herkimer Coffee.

Established in Seattle in 2003, Herkimer has become a local favorite for thoughtfully sourced coffee and carefully roasted beans. They're a Seattle-based roastery with several neighborhood cafés, including Phinney Ridge, Ravenna, and Belltown.

What I like about Herkimer is that they keep things focused on the coffee itself. Their menu includes classic espresso drinks, drip coffee, cold brew, and a rotating selection of single-origin coffees. They also roast their own beans, so if you find something you love, you can take a bag home and attempt to recreate the experience in your own kitchen.

Their cafés each have a slightly different neighborhood feel, too. The Phinney Ridge location is their original home and roastery, while the Ravenna shop has a more laid-back neighborhood atmosphere.

Pair your coffee with one of their pastries (the scones are worth a look), and you've got yourself a pretty solid morning.

Final Thoughts: Life Is Too Short for Bad Coffee

One of my favorite things about Seattle is that every neighborhood seems to have its own little coffee culture. From the walk-up espresso windows downtown to the neighborhood cafés tucked into residential streets, there's always somewhere new to discover.

And that's part of what makes exploring Seattle so much fun.

When I talk with clients about finding the right neighborhood, it's not just about the house itself. It's about the little things that make everyday life enjoyable. Your favorite coffee shop around the corner, the restaurant you end up visiting every Friday, or the place where the barista already knows your order.

Those are the things that make a neighborhood feel like home.

So take a break from your usual coffee run, try somewhere new, and support a few local businesses along the way.

And if you happen to discover your new favorite latte, feel free to share. I'm always accepting coffee recommendations. (It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.)
