August in Seattle: Local Events You Won't Want to Miss This Month
If there's one thing you learn living in Seattle, it's that summer isn't something we take for granted. After months of gray skies, August rolls around and suddenly everyone's calendars are packed. Festivals, outdoor concerts, movie nights, markets, you name it. It's the perfect time to get outside, explore a new neighborhood, and squeeze every last drop out of Seattle's best season. If you're looking for a few ideas, here are some local events worth checking out this month.
Washington State International Kite Festival
August 17–23 | Long Beach, WA
Okay, technically this one isn't in Seattle but it's one of the best August day trips you can make.
Picture hundreds of colorful kites filling the sky, professional kite demonstrations, competitions, family activities, and one of Washington's most beautiful beaches. It's one of those events that's surprisingly entertaining, even if you never imagined yourself getting excited about kites.
Bonus points if you make a weekend out of it.

Summer movie nights under the Space Needle? Yes, please.
Bring a blanket, pack some snacks (or grab dinner nearby), and enjoy a free movie on one of Seattle's most iconic lawns. It's one of those simple summer traditions that never gets old.
If you've been looking for an easy date night or a family outing that doesn't require a lot of planning, this one's hard to beat.
Seattle Design Festival
Mid-August | Multiple Locations
Even if you don't consider yourself a "design person," the Seattle Design Festival is worth checking out.
Interactive installations, public art, architecture, creative exhibits, and conversations about how we shape our city, it all comes together in a way that's surprisingly fun and accessible.
It's also a great excuse to wander through neighborhoods you may not visit very often. And who knows? You might stumble across your next favorite coffee shop while you're at it.
Fremont Sunday Market
Every Sunday | Fremont
Part farmers market, part vintage market, part neighborhood block party, the Fremont Sunday Market is one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend.
You'll find local artists, handmade goods, vintage treasures, fresh flowers, great food, and enough unique finds that you'll probably leave with something you never knew you needed.
Even if you don't buy anything, Fremont is one of Seattle's most fun neighborhoods to explore. Grab brunch, browse the market, walk along the canal, and enjoy one of those perfect Seattle summer afternoons that make you forget what February feels like.
One of my favorite parts about helping people find a home is introducing them to the neighborhoods, not just the houses.
Because a great neighborhood isn't only about the homes on the street. It's about weekend traditions, local events, favorite coffee shops, and finding those little places that make you think, "Yeah... I could see myself living here."
August is one of the best months to get out and experience everything Seattle has to offer. So grab some friends, explore somewhere new, support a local business or two, and make the most of our favorite season.
